New Econ® steel water separators for steam and compressed air systems are available directly from stock (1085E PN16 flange, 1087E PN40 threaded, 1089E PN40 flange). 

Application of water separator / steam dryers

Moisture in steam and compressed air systems cause excessive wear and damage through water hammer or erosion to expensive and delicate accessories such as valves, pressure regulators and measuring instruments. As a result the accuracy and expected life span reduce very quick.
 
Besides the fact that Econ® water separators increase the lifespan of the installed accessories and decrease the risk of water hammer, it also increase the efficiency of the installation. After all, dry steam contains more energy than wet steam.

Functioning of water separators / steam dryers


Steam condenses on the way from the boiler to the user as it comes into contact with the cooler pipe wall. In addition to the condensate on the pipe wall a mist of small moisture droplets will also be present in the pipe. In order to remove the condensate from the steam a plate is mounted in the Econ® water separator against which the steam collides.  The moisture particles present precipitate against this plate and the special 

shape of the internal parts cause the condensate to be discharged downwards. The condensate is then effectively discharged through the steam trap, which is to be mounted on the bottom of the water separator. See the enclosed sample installation. With this special construction the efficiency of the Econ® water separator is nearly 99% at flow rates ranging between 10 and 47 m/s.

In addition to the process connections, the Econ® water separator is also provided with ½" BSP threaded connections at the top and bottom. The connection at the top is reserved for an optional pressure gauge or air vent. As standard this connection is sealed by a blanking plug. The jack at the bottom is reserved for accessories included with the steam trap.
